Mar. 16—DANVILLE — Members of Danville Area High School'sStudents Preserving Mental Health club are organizing a Hoops for Mental Health fundraiser where club members will take on district staff on the court.

SPM club advisor and Danville Primary School Principal Megan Geise said the game will be more than just basketball.

"The students are working on a really powerful message to present at halftime," the advisor said. "We want everyone districtwide to know sad feelings are only temporary."

Danville junior Gabby Cashner said she wants people to know they're not alone.

"There is a whole community here backing them," Cashner said. "There are resources."

Junior Garrett Hoffman, who will be playing in the basketball game, said the cause has a special meaning to him.

"The cause is important to me because I was close with one of the kids who recently passed," Hoffman said. "It's important to get people out to support this cause."

Sophomore Collin Geise will also be playing in the game and said he looks forward to playing against some of his teachers for a good cause.

"It's fun to play against the teachers, but, at the same time, make a statement on mental health," the sophomore said.

The event will be held at 6 p.m.March 23 in the Danville High School gym. The cost to enter is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

There will be concessions, a 50/50 drawing and a mental health-themed basket raffle, Megan Geise said.
